Sweet Briar College is a liberal arts women's college in Sweet Briar, which is an unincorporated community in Amherst County, in the central part of Virginia state, USA.
The college was established in 1901 and gets its name from the former Sweet Briar plantation, which is believed to have been named for the sweet briar rose.
Sweet Briar currently offers its students more than 40 major, minor and certificate programs, as well as pre-professional programs in pre-law, pre-medicine and pre-veterinary, and graduate degree programs in differentiated curriculum and instruction, offering Master of Arts in Teaching and Master of Education.
Sweet Briar's athletic teams are nicknamed the Vixens and they compete in NCAA Division III, ODAC. Their distinctive colors are pink and green.
